PLATINUM
What
is platinum?
Platinum is a valuable, rare, metallic element that is
heavier than gold, and of high tensile strength. In platinum
jewellery, the platinum content is extremely high - at
least 90 per cent or more - with the remaining alloy another
platinum family member; purity standards are very high.
It requires greater heat to work with than yellow gold
and its higher lustre finish will stay bright and shiny
for a long time. Platinum will not tarnish.
How do I care for platinum jewellery?
-
Store pieces separately (although strong,
platinum jewellery is not completely resistant
to scratches).
-
Use a jeweller cleaner and a soft cloth to
remove dirt; and never use bleaches or abrasives.
-
If platinum jewellery is scratched or bumped,
a jeweller can easily buff most marks away.
